The Founders

Stern & Associates was founded in 1985 by partners Gerry Stern and Yvette Borcia

Gerry Stern and Yvette Borcia are acknowledged experts, writers and speakers in the fields of organization strategy and development, total reward system design, and employee motivation, communication and performance management.

The partners teach classes in Compensation and Human Resource Management in UCLA's business & management professional certification program, and have taught Motivation and Performance Management, and Consulting Practice Design for CSUN. Mr. Stern also taught Sales Compensation for the American Compensation Association.

Gerry Stern holds degrees in Economics from SUNY-Binghamton, and Labor and Industrial Relations from UIUC. Prior to founding Stern & Associates, he held senior consulting positions at Ernst & Young, Hewitt Associates, and KPMG Peat Marwick. His non-consulting employment includes positions as Compensation Manager for Dart Industries, and Director of Compensation, Organization and Employee Relations for Tosco.

Yvette Borcia holds a degree in Communications, with high honors from the University of Illinois. She earned professional designation in Organization Design and Human Resources Development from UCLA. Prior to her partnership in Stern & Associates, she established Inklings, a business communication and graphic arts firm. Earlier work includes theatrical production, business management, and adult education. Ms. Borcia has served as a civil service commissioner for the city of Culver City.
